This is teh easiest cake to make that doesn't come outta a box. Its called teh "Bishop's cake" because my great granmother made it for teh bishop once, and he loved it so much, they named it after him.
Ingrediants: 2 sticks butter 2 cups sugar 2 tbsp. vanilla 2 cups flour 5 eggs
Cream teh butter and sugar. Add vanilla. Add teh flour and eggs in increments. (ie. add one egg, then half a cup of flour, then another egg, another half a cup, etc.) Pour into a bundt pan. Cook at 300 for 2 hrs. (Or was it one? Oh well, its almost impossible to overcook this cake anyway.)
Its great plain, or with almost any topping you can think of. I prefer it with powdered sugar. My grandmother preferred to drench it in Grand Marnier.
P.S. If you don't have a bundt pan, a regular cake pan will work, it just won't taste as good. Or look as pretty.

Coming from a family of bakers I's got LOTS of cake recipes...
For instance
Lemon Pudding Cake
3 eggs, separated 3 tbsp butter 3/4 cup sugar grated rind of 1 lemon 1 cup milk 3/4 cup flour 1/3 cup lemon juice, Squeeze fresh lemons (perfered)
Preheat oven to 350. IN bowl beat egg whites until stiff. IN another bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in lemon rind, lemon Juice and Egg yolks, one at a time until well mixed. Beat in milk then flour until well blended. Flold teh beaten egg whites into teh lemon mixture and pour into a greased 8x8x2 baking dish. Set in larger pan with hot water in teh bottom (about one inch) bake uncovered for 35 minutes.
Doubling don't work well with this recipe.

Punch Bowl Cake!
bunch of unfrosted cake scraps, don't matter how much or what kind of cake. Pudding Pie filling
Layer cake, pudding, and filling until you fill a punch bowl then serve.
You can use any kind of puding or pie filling and even different flavors of each. and you can add fresh fruit and other stuff if you want.
