Considering these are so popular everywhere, I was surprised that no one on this board has mentioned them. So, which Dan Brown books have you read, and what do you think of them?
I've read teh DaVinci Code and Deception Point. Both were fast paced novels with intriguing plots and kept me guessing, but then I'm not very good at guessing plot twists. I finished both in about 3 hours each, which, even for me, is pretty quick, and so I think it's obvious they kept my interest.
Overall, I think I liked Deception Point better. It had teh political angle that I wuv in novels, and that really helped get me into teh plot. What I loved about DaVinci Code, though, was how Brown managed to point out that almost every Christian symbol other than like, teh cross itself, was pretty much stolen from pagans, and yet no one in teh US seems to care. But say a latin "spell" in Harry Potter, and you're trying to convert kids to satanism!
Crazy crazy world.
I think Brown's biggest flaw is his characterization. His main characters seemed kind of flat to me. Intelligent, good looking, in need of romance. Some of his secondary characters I found more interesting than his main characters, for instance, Corky in Deception Point or teh albino monk from DaVinci Code. His plots are also fairly similar, as in you know what to expect from a Brown novel. It will have plot twists, conspiracy, and a villian that you know, but you don't know is teh villian.
Over all, I like him, but I don't think teh DaVinci code deserves to be teh huge seller it is.
(and just for teh record, I didn't buy either of these books, I borrowed them from other international students here)
