and in risking showing how much of a dork I truely am... and because no one else has done so yet... here's a comic thread. WHY am I creating it... because I'm sure SOME of us around here read them. I collect, and have collected for a while now, teh Sonic teh Hedgehog, brought to us by teh people at Archie. I've collected them on and off since around ish. 39... and still have MOST of them. And though teh comics themselves are somewhat entertaining... I think that one reviewer's rants are just as entertaining as, and sometimes more than, teh book. Here's a link to Dan drazen's reviews... he does a good job of recaping teh story while putting his two cents in... be warned... you may wanna have a fire extinguisher handy... he likes to flame teh Archie staff. and yeah... spoilers are there. www2.andrews.edu/~drazen/archives.htmlor www2.andrews.edu/~drazen/slknot.htm

I've read almost everything he's done, and I wuv his TV series "Invader Zim". My favorite series by him is Squee, though I own "I Feel Sick" which is awesome and in color.

Well if we're talkin' comics (or as my good friend Wo0tus would say "graphic novels") Then I must reccommend teh Tick by Ben Edlund and Milk & Cheese by Evan Dorkin. Those are two of teh best comics EVER. If you only know teh Tick from teh cartoon, or teh TV show, then you don't know teh Tick! teh Comics start off with teh big blue bug in a mental asylum! And Milk and Cheese. All I can say is... VIOLENCE!!! Man I miss my Milk and Cheese Zippo. I still have it somewhere, but it's never been teh same since some asshat dropped it off of a 3rd floor deck.

oh man, totally a comic thread.
i went through a phase, when i was just devouring any of teh alien vs. preditor comics. now, this was pre-videogame, and definately pre-movie, so back OFF.
but anyway, yeah.
i have alot of those, a couple of gen x (which i really like, but never bought coz i didn't have money then)
i got a couple of comics lately that i have been trying (meaning) to use as art inspiration for my own comic (teh big red) but i never got around to really working on it.
VENOM is my favorite character ever in comics, that wasn't spiderman or wolverine, anyhoo.
i'll just let woot drop by some time and talk about sandman. it's awesome, but not so fresh in my mind anymore.

hol ploppers! how has this thread evaded me for this long, and why did i only notices it after dues and kerf mention me...
anyway, yea Sandman is freaking spectaular, written by neil giaman, who is a literary genious. Sandman is about Dream, who is not a superhero, or a god, or anything of that sort. he is teh shaper of dreams, he (and his siblings {Destiny, Death, Desire, Delirium [previously Delight], Dispare, and destruction}) are ether-real so to speak, and exsist because we make them so. now teh stories are not centered directly around Dream (aka Morphous) they are centered are people indirectly linked to him, or experiencing events which involve him in some way shape or form. now i may not have just drew teh best picture of teh series, but it is intensly interesting, and defintly would create much thought upon reading most any of teh graphic novels.
now neil giaman actually recently did a comic series for marvel entitled 1602. teh premise of it being basically teh superheroes of current came to 300 years ago, and there are events that would tear apart teh world, and they hafta figure out what has happened, and how to solve teh dilema. now many of your fav marvel charactors are in it, including teh x-men, peter parker, nick fury, teh fantastic four, daredevil, magneto, and a few more. very original, and very creative, also one that should be read.
i also would recommend teh Maxx and Zero Girl, by sam keith. it'd try and explain what's going on inthem, but it'd really do no good, other than causing confusing. but teh art is brilliant.
oh, and on a side note, comic vs graphic novel... teh only difference is that a graphic novel is a collection of comics bound together (usually without advertising) usually on a bit nicer paper, and usually they are from teh same series, ei Seperation anxiety 1-6 type deal...
nothing more i really wanna mention at teh moment, and i thin this post is probly damn well long enough, though do expect to see more from me later on...

Oh yes! teh Maxx! How could I forget that?! teh Maxx is teh goodness. But... it... changed after a time. teh best part is pretty much what you saw on MTV. Once it got into Sara's spirit animal and her version of teh Maxx, it wasn't teh same anymore. Meh, maybe that was just me.

Actually teh cartoon was SURPRISINGLY faithful to teh comic. About teh only things they cut out were teh other Image characters that appeared (cuz Image was all creator owned, and teh other characters were owned by other artists). Fer instance... instead of Mako (a villain from teh Savage Dragon) they had "Hammerhead". Same guy basically, but different name. And teh issue where Maxx was all small and teh Pitt was there too, teh Pitt got cut outta teh TV show cuz it was... not owned by Sam Kieth. It was owned by Dale Keown I believe... but yeah, other than that, very faithful.

I mostly read teh Incredible Hulk. Though I have a few others. I have a really really old Abominations comic, but I was little so it's all torn up. And my mom ruined another one of my comics. Otherwise, I'm not a huge collecter. My best friend is though. He has an entire filing cabinet full and plus some.
