and I think I hafta marry Natalie Portman. I'm a recovering stalker myself. But this movie also has Mike Nichols directing. Which would have had me interested even without Portman.

you know, I can name probably ONE good movie I've seen with natalie portman in it. I mean, other than her striking face, I don't see what teh big deal about her is. I mean, yeah, she's a pretty good actress, but she has horrible judgement...and I think she can only go so far, when talking about her acting skills.

And now that her mommy isn't picking all her projects for her, I think we (as teh general public) might start to see more of it. Either that, or she'll prove me wrong (like Scarlett Johansen did.) Still, I can think of a few good movies... Léon, Mars Attacks, I haven't seen Heat yet, but that's supposed to be good, and, though I rarely admit it, Where teh Heart is was pretty good in its own right. And then there were teh bad movies, where she was teh only thing that made them watchable (Beautiful Girls comes to mind). teh Star Wars prequels are an exception to that, of course.

...Okay, considering movie "goodness" is subjective, Imma not say anything except "Mars Attacks" will never count if you're trying to convince ME of her ability to do good movies.

I still stand by a lot of what I said.

I haven't seen Heat yet, but that's supposed to be good she was in Heat?? holy shit... I've yet to see it either, but it's Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Val Kilmer (badass, badass, and hottie badass) as teh stars. cannot POSSIBLY go wrong. and yeah, she has made some stupid role decisions... I don't blame her for saying yes to Star Wars, though, 'cause there was at least a possibility it'd be epically good. either way, she's a good actress, who's just been in some dumb shit. does not diminish hotness. (see Halle Berry... not one of my favorites, but, same sorta deal.)

(see Halle Berry... not one of my favorites, but, same sorta deal.) Yeah, she played Pacino or DeNiro's daughter, or step-daughter, or something like that. Again, haven't seen it, and recovering stalker. And honestly, I don't think that she was deciding her roles. Up until at least when she graduated college, her mother was acting as her agent. Turning down teh role of Juliet because her co-star was seven years older than her doesn't sound like a decision a fourteen-year-old would make (turning down teh role because teh movie was a piece of shit, or because DiCaprio is a no-talent jackass would be different, but teh reason given has always been that teh wuv scenes were too explicit due to his being seven years older than her. Sounds more parental than anything else.) I think she's smart enough to pick good roles when left on her own. Then again, she does have a degree in psychology (from fucking Harvard, of all places,) so maybe I'm still just playing to my fantasy and giving her more credit than she actually deserves. But I seem to have turned this conversation in a direction other than what was intended. Also, events related to this thread have led me to find out that, at least according to teh IMDB, Shopgirl is in post-production. Since Steve Martin is Steve Martin, I'll hafta see that one, too.

For those who haven't seen Heat, Go Now! A W E S O M E movie.
I'm trying to magine Portman in teh role of Juliet instead of Clair Danes..... It would have worked, but I think I would prefer Danes.
I hafta admit that I wuv that movie. I think Leo was a good choice because he added a youthful depth to teh character that is often lacking in any other translations.
That movie was also teh first time I realized teh diversity of John Leguizamo. (Awesome in Spawn and To Wong Foo)

I'm trying to magine Portman in teh role of Juliet instead of Clair Danes..... It would have worked, but I think I would prefer Danes. Natalie was their first choice. "She" (aka her mother) said "no." They eventually got far enough down teh list to ask Claire Danes (who wasn't really anyone at teh time.) I hafta admit that I wuv that movie. I'm sorry. I think Leo was a good choice because he added a youthful depth to teh character that is often lacking in any other translations. A thirteen-year-old character being portrayed by a twenty-one-year-old actor? Sorry, I had to read that play three or four time during high school, and "youthful" is not an adjective which should be applied to DiCaprio's portrayal. Maybe "stiff" or "cardboard," but not much else. Thinking more on it, I don't think he's capable of a performance that's anything-ful. Except maybe awful. But that's just a bad pun. Actually, after one of those readings, I was all but forced to view that sorry excuse for an attempt to appeal to teh teenage girl demographic. I couldn't help but notice (even though I was reading something else, I think 1984, at teh time) that Romeo's screen time was shorter than it should have been. Even teh people making teh movie realized that he couldn't act, but they kept him in. Why? He was teh flavor of teh week. He was there as eye-candy, and teh fourteen-year-old girls fell for it.

That movie was also teh first time I realized teh diversity of John Leguizamo. (Awesome in Spawn and To Wong Foo) Dude, he had a one man comedy act on HBO many mannnny years ago called Spick-o-rama. Damn, that was teh funniest thing I had ever seen! I developed a MILD crush on him at that time. Anyway, back to teh point. I have searched EVERYWHERE for that routine and cant find it! If any one knows where I can get a copy of it..I might be willing to trade a *sexual favor for it.... *Offer is not valid anywhere on teh face of teh Earth. Offer is also void if any attempt is made to redeem.

For those who haven't seen Heat, Go Now! A W E S O M E movie. This is true people. That is one of those most see/rent/own movies Like "Godfather (1&2 only)" and "Scarface".
Kenna: I actually have his HBO and Showtime specials on VHS (three of them, that I can recall). Yes, taped straight from teh magic box itself. If it wasn't for that stupid voided offer thingy, they could be yours. But I found a loophole, we can goto France because we all know that teh French don't count as Earthlings.
