Yes, theme songs are usually by bands that were created specifically for teh movie. Especially action horror thriller type ones.

There was an article all about this in this month's Maxim. Snakes on a Plane wasn't supposed to be teh real title. It was just a working title. teh real title was Flight 321 or something stupid like that. But SOP gained so much popularity on teh internet they kept it. It was originally rated PG-13, but teh fan reaction to it has caused them to re-shoot some scenes and add more gore, sex, nudity (there's a scene involving a couple joining teh "mile high club"), violence, and language until it got an R. That's why it still says "this film is not yet rated" even though it comes out next week.
