Ok, vent time on CLASP because teh people I’m venting about are on my FB and LJ.
Here’s teh deal for those not in teh know…My husband and I are looking into buying our first home. We’re super excited and even though it’s gonna be a lot of work we’re ready to take it on.
We’ve been saving our butts off, but will still only be able to go with an FHA loan so we only need 3.5% down. We’ll have a (depending on teh cost of teh house) a little more to nearly double than that saved up, but we don’t wanna deplete our savings on teh down payment. So FHA it is.
So bottom line….we’re doing all we can to buy a house and really happy that we have great credit because we’ve been pre-approved for a nice loan and our mortgage rate will be nice and low.
Now…here’s what’s bugging me.
We have some friends (a married couple: husband will be R and wife will be M) who are also looking to buy their first home. Currently we both live in teh same apartment complex, two buildings apart.
So we’ve been thinking about buying a house for quite awhile, but just recently started all teh serious work. R &M started not even a month before us, but now act like they are house buying experts.
Oh, but here’s teh kicker….M doesn’t work, she’s a stay at home mom, but she wasn’t even working before they got pregnant (their son’s 8mon. and she hasn’t worked in close to 2.5yrs). So they’re a single income family and R has literally zero credit. He couldn’t even get a store credit card!! He’s currently applying for a card with a credit union but has to get references!
So our first thought to all this is, ‘wow, they must be struggling to save a down payment too’. Oh, but no…of course that’s not teh case. Because M’s a spoiled little brat whose mommy and daddy give her anything she wants.
I wanna go to an expensive college for 5yrs and not use my degree…mommy and daddy will pay for that!
I want my dream wedding and honeymoon…mommy and daddy will pay for that too.
I don’t wanna work anymore because I hate my job, so I wanna stay at home and crochet all day because that’ll be my work-from-home business that makes me no money, but we can’t pay our rent on time or in full…no fear…mommy and daddy will give you an early inheritance check for $10,000.
And now I wanna buy a house, but we have no extra money and our credit is crap, but we don’t wanna get an FHA loan because it’s beneath us (even though it’s a perfectly credible loan), but you guess it…mommy and daddy set aside a CD for their baby girl so they now have Thirty-fucking-Thousand dollars to put down on a house.
I’m sure a lot of you are wondering why I’m even friends with these ppl, but they are nice, if not naive, people.
It just pisses me off so much…SO SOOOOOO MUCH, with people get life handed to them on a fucking silver platter.
In this case, they really give off teh vibe that they’re better than us, because they have more money saved…even though they haven’t saved a penny personally and we’ve worked our butts off both working full time jobs and penny-pinching like there’s no tomorrow and denying ourselves some extra fun (like gonna movies, out to eat, ext) all for teh sake of someday having a place to call our home.
Well, that’s about it…I just needed a place to vent.
/long rant
